A New Amendment – No Exemptions For Congress

Mar 23, 2010 by

I got an e-mail from a friend today. It’s one of those forwarded ones you normally dismiss. But this one got my attention.

In a nutshell, it’s pushing for the 28th Amendment. And in another nutshell, the proposed amendment says Congress has to abide by the same rules and laws as the American people, and vice versa.  Sounds reasonable right?

Doing a little checking, it appears the e-mail has floated around since at least November 2009.  A lot of what’s in the e-mail simply isn’t true, but I have to agree with the premise.

Congress – staff and elected – should abide by the same rules average Americans do.

Congress did in fact exempt itself from many laws it passed – OSHA, wage and hour, civil rights, open records and a host of others for years. The Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 did away with many of those, although some exemptions still remain.

I’m sure this e-mail came out from all the health care debate – concerns Congress would exempt itself from having to get in on the “public option” and other issues.
What I learnt from the medication procedure out of curiosity was that buying levitra without prescription had an effective component named Sildenafil Citrate which is known to be ideal solution to overcome smaller and lose penile organ. These are all extremely rare, but should you be displaying symptoms of impotence then you should visit anabolicmuscles.com. anabolicmuscles.com have become most trusted and acknowledge steroid viagra purchase canada supplier in UK since 2002. Gydyti.Problema viagra viagra sildenafil They’re just there, right after the medicine passes. In the long run, these pop-up ads sildenafil buy are making the whole Internet much slower than necessary, costing the users time as well as money.
All that is irrelevant.  The question is whether this amendment should be added.

Here’s what it says:

“Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.”

I think it’s reasonable.  In this country, no one should have special status. You pass a bill, you abide by the bill.

Thoughts?

Of course that’s a reasonable thought. But I haven’t seen much reason from Congress. On the flip, it would be reasonable for us to enjoy the same benefits of Congress, healthcare and retirement are a few that come to mind.

I agree 100% – if we have to do it so should Congress!
    NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!
What makes them think they are better than us!
They don’t pay into SS – you try & not do that & you would be in jail.
Now the health care bill – we have to get it -even tho most of the people DIDN”T want it.
But Congress will not take it.
    Something wrong here!!!

    • Thanks for writing. I think Congress finally pays SS. But I agree everyone should follow the same rules. Interesting to see whether they will change their health plan and follow what most Americans will get

If Congress ever adopts this ammendment to be part of the new healthcare program, I’ll – be – amazed!

REASON: It’s so obviously terrific and easy to understood – – – they won’t get it. (rather – DON’T WANT IT – for themselves!)
They’re Americans – they should follow the healthcare program they put into place FOR AMERICANS!
Easy & obvious. (OR – – – is it because it’s NOT a good program? (and they know it!)

Reminds me of another OBVIOUS fact – this issue is ‘illegal immigrants.’ (They’re not undocumented workers!)
And – – – ‘Comprehensive Immigration Reform’ is nothing more than AMNESTY for illegals. Can – you – even imagine – how angry that will make legal immigrants feel? (unintended consequencies) Can you imagine how angry it makes ME feel, to know that Congress doesn’t know the difference between legal and illegal?
