Wings For Willis
What’s for dinner? Why, tonight it will be a little grill action featuring some little legs.
The recipe is included in my upcoming book, The Little Black Dress and the SONS of Thunder ~ Recipes on Life and Food.
But why wait when you can check it out now. Here’s how it appears in the book:
WINGS FOR WILLIS
Soon after moving back to Georgia, we had friends over for a cookout. Consider it sort of a welcoming back kind of thing. There were a bunch of kids over playing with the Sons of Thunder as well. And when one of those young boys comes up to you with his face full of your latest creation and says “this is the most delicious thing I have ever eaten,” you know you have to name it for him.
I love buffalo wings and will order them just about every chance I can. I don’t have a deep fryer, but I always wanted to make them. So I did a little improvisation. The main difference being you don’t bake or fry them, you grill them outside. Gas or charcoal, that’s up to you. I buy those big bags of wings and have found that a large grill will be perfect for two bags.
And so Willis, since you loved them so much, this is for you.
Two large frozen bags of wings.
A grill
Your favorite sauce/marinade.
I like to thaw my wings ahead of time, add my favorite sauce, let them marinate for a few hours and then grill them on low heat, turning as needed.
I’ve made wings all different ways, with lemon pepper seasoning and a lemon-butter sauce; teriyaki sauce; or just a good old wing sauce you can buy in any grocery. I usually favor the wing sauce, but put in a bunch of hot sauce as well.
These are great right off the grill, but are also a great snack cold. The sauce, the temperature, it’s all up to you.
